Angling in Uttarakhand (16th February, 2016) : Angling – a kind of fishing shall be promoted in Uttarakhand by the state tourism department in order to attract the foreign tourists. The department is starting to promote this event in a big manner starting from April and May in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. At present, the angling tourism is confined with private tour operators, mainly along Kosi river which passes through Corbett national park, Yamuna and Pancheshwar on Mahakali river bank. However, there has not been any initiative of this kind by state government and this is the first time that such event of angling shall be organized by the tourism department.
The responsibility of this event has been delegated to Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) and the site selection shall be the first step in this direction. Most probably, Pithoragarg district shall be chosen for this event, but the department has to take the final decision. The event is to be organized in the month of April, for that KMVN has been asked to prepare the report and finalise the location. In similar fashion, such events shall be organized later in different places of Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand. The event shall be organized in a manner that the wild life, flora and fauna shall not be disturbed. The whole concept to develop these kind of tourism events in Uttarakhand is to attract the tourists from India and abroad. According to NABARD, only 1% of foreign tourists visiting India visit Uttarakhand and out of those foreign tourists, 66% do not go beyond Rishikesh and Haridwar.
