Auli visit (24th March, 2016) : Auli is famous for skiing and has slopes of varying lengths from 400 mtrs. to 3.1 km. Every year many tourists visit to see this wonderful place from different corners of India and abroad. In uttrakhand, Auli is the only renowned skiing resort where skiing events are organized every year during winters. Auli is also known for its surrounding beauty and the meadow.
Auli is 16 km from Joshimath town. During winters, Auli gets full of tourists and people also prefer to stay in Joshimath due to its proximity. A ropeway connects Auli with Joshimath which is 3.75 km long and takes 25 minutes to reach there. The ropeway is operated by GMVN and one can book the ticket from the counter at Joshimath. The ropeway trolley ticket is two way ticket i.e. to and fro. The ropeway normally starts in morning and ends in evening. It depends on the number of tourists for the rounds of trolley to manage the visits.
The other option to reach Auli is by road. The distance between Auli and Joshimath is around 16 km. It is quite enjoyable drive from Joshimath to Auli amidst pine trees. The snow capped Himalayan mountains add the enjoyment while driving. The few famous mountains which are seen from Auli and during the drive are Hathi parvat, Ghoda parvat, sleeping beauty etc. Walking on the green grass of Auli is a great experience during summer which is full of snow during winters. Many activities can also be done here like rock climbing, motor biking, flying fox etc. A trek can also be done to Gorson which is around 3 km one way. This route is also used for Kuari pass trek.
Auli can be reached via Rishikesh from Delhi. The distance between Auli and Rishikesh is around 266 km and it takes around 11 – 12 hours to reach here.
