P 3Opening ceremony of Badrinath temple – 6th May, 2017 (12th February, 2017): This year the kapat of Badrinath Dham shall open at 4:15 AM on 6th May, 2017. Badrinath Dham is Bhoo Bhaikhand of earth. This Dham is also known as the Dham for salvation. Badrinath Dham is known for its different names in different yugas – Mukti prada in Satyug, Yog siddha in Treta, VIshala in Dwapar and Badrikasharam in Kalyug. In Puranas, Badrikasharam is named the main Dham of all the Dhams and main theerth of all the teerths.

The Badrinath Dham is located at around 17, 500 feet in district Chamoli of Uttarakhand. Lord Badrivishal is seating in the lap of the Narayan parvat which is the part of Gandh Madan mountain chain. The Alakananda river flows through lord Bdrivishal’s feet in reverence. Bhagwan Badrivishal which also means Shri Vishnu sits in a Padmasan posture here in Badrinath temple.

Important points:

People visit here to perform pind to their forefathers. It is said that once you perform the pind here at Badrinath, then you don’t need to go anywhere to perform the pind.

At Badrinath, there are two big kunds. These kunds are natural hot water kunds. As per the tradition, one is required to take the bath in these kunds before entering the temple.

The Laxmi temple is also located inside the complex. It is said that after visiting Bhagwan Badrivishal, one gets free of all desires.

Dos and don’ts:

Bring woolen clothes, umbrella and wooden stick to walk. Only vegetarian food is served here at Badrinath.                                                                                                                                                                            Bring elementary medicines for fever, cough, pain killer etc.
Don’t bring too much of luggage and bring sports or warm well tried shoes.
Don’t bring plastic or glass products with you. Make Himalaya free of these pollutants.

How to reach Badrinath:                                                                                                                                                    Delhi to Rishikesh: 225 km                                                                                                                                        Rishikesh to Joshimath: 250 km                                                                                                                           Joshimath to Badrinath and back : 100 km                                                                                                                     Joshimath to Rishikesh: 250 km

Badrinath highway re – opens after 27 hours (21st May, 2017): Heavy landslide on the Badrinath highway near Vishnuprayag resulted in the Badrinath Highway remaining blocked to traffic for nearly 27 hours.
