At 30 km from Almora on Bageshwar road is situated Binsar, the dream town of Sir Hanry Ramsey the British time commissioner of Kumaon. The road goes through picturesque forest land to a height of 2412 mtr where the tourist rest house is located. It is an ideal place for peaceful holiday from where the breath taking view of Himalayas is available on a clear day. Binsar is also known for a memorable view of sun rise and sun set. An enchanting view of the Himalayas can be had from the Tourist Rest house itself but the zero point which can be reached by a short one km trek offers perhaps the best view in Kumaon. This place infact was chosen as a summer retreat by the Chand ruler Kalyan Chand, who constructed the temple of Bineshwar Mahadev near by.
Binsar has a wild life sanctuary encompassing an area of nearly 48 sq km. The wild life office records may show a good number of animals inside but if you do not see any you need not be disappointed as the sanctuary has a large number of birds of all seasons who keep you busy watching them. Then the different variety of trees including conifers, oak and rhododendron make your small treks here rewarding.
