cctvCCTVs along the Badrinath highway (23rd May, 2016): The Badrinath highway in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand would be equipped with CCTVs (Close circuit televisions)  to monitor the traffic flow of the vehicles on the Badrinath route. There is a plan to install CCTVs starting from Gauchar to Badrinath at major halting places along the route.  These CCTVs will be connected to police outposts for the safety and security of the visitors.

In Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, every year hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and tourists visit many places. The main places of interests are Badrinath, Auli, Hemkund Sahib, Valley of Flowers etc. There are several treks like Kuari pass, Kagbhushandi tal, Satopant trek etc. To facilitate the safety and security of the visitors, police department has opened police outposts at many major halting places. But due to heavy flow of tourists, the district police has come up with the idea of installing CCTVs for continuous vigilance and recording of the vehicle traffic. Under this plan, the CCTVs shall be installed at main halting stations. The places where CCTVs shall be installed are Gauchar, Karanprayag, Chamoli, Pipalkoti, Joshimath, Govind ghat, Pandukeshwar and Badrinath Dham.

All this exercise is being done to provide the safety and the security to the visitors coming to Chamoli district. With the help of CCTVs, the inventory of vehicles passing through these police outposts will be recorded. This will also help in checking any kind of fraud and anti – social activities. As per internal sources, the CCTVs shall be installed as soon as the permission from police headquarter at Dehradun is given. The journey to Badrinath shall be more secure and safe with the help of police and administration of Uttarakhand.

In Badrinath, CCTVs have already been installed from Singhdwar to main temple pavilion. These CCTVs have many times helped in identifying anti – social elements and other activities.
