combine_imagesChar Dham and Hemkund Sahib (18th March, 2016) : Uttarakhand state is set to receive the pilgrims for Char Dham sites and Hemkund Sahib. These Char Dham sites and Hemkund Sahib draw the pilgrims from all around the world. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims visit to these sites every year and the number is growing. The religious values attached to these places are very interesting and take you to a totally different world of spiritualism and sacredness. The pilgrims find these journeys as one of the lifelong achievements and make sure to benefit spiritually from these pilgrimages. The Char Dham sites are for Hindu devotees and Hemkund Sahib is for Sikh devotes.

The Char Dham sites are Yamunotri, Gangotri , Kedarnath and Badrinath. The complete circuit of these Char Dham sites start from Yamunotri and ends at Badrinath. The completion of these Char Dham sites takes at least 12 days from Rishikesh and 3 days for one pilgrimage like Badrinath. Many people visit whole Char Dham sites  at one go and many people visit these pilgrimages in parts. Though, all the Char Dham sites are equally important but still Badrinath is considered the most important Dham. The Importance given to the Badrinath Dham is due to the fact that this Dham is also one of the Char Dhams of India.

The Badrinath temple is associated with Lord Vishnu, Kedarnath temple is associated with Lord Shiva, Gangotri temple is associated with Goddess Ganga  and finally Yamunotri is associated with river Yamuna.  All these four temples are opened during May to November and closed during winter. The seats of all these temples are moved to lower reaches of Himalayan villages to continue worshipping. The tradition of moving winter to summer and summer to winter seats is also very interesting and done with all vedic rituals and religious ceremonies. The locals and devotees participate during these events of opening and closing ceremonies.

HemkundHemkund Shrine is associated with Guru Govind Singh, who is said to have meditated at Hemkund Sahib. The association of the Henkund Sahib with Guru Govind Singh is also very fascinating. The Hemkund sahib is in district Chamoli. To reach Hemkund sahib one has to trek fro Govind ghat till Ghangria on first day and on second day to Hemkund Sahib. Ghangria is the point where from the trek to valley of flowers also starts. These days the helicopter services have also started from Govind ghat to Gahngria.

The opening dates of the above mentioned pilgrimages are as follows:
