christ 1Christ the Redeemer, built during 1922 and 1931, is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This statue is one of the biggest statues in the world with the cost of the monument around $250,000.The statue was built by French sculptor Paul Landowski  and  Brazilian engineer Heitor da SilvaCosta, in association with the French engineer Albert Caquot. The facial part was constructed by the Romanian artist Gheorghe Leonida, born in Galati, Romania, in 1893. It is commonly joked that the sculpture of Christ the Redeemer, although majestic, isn’t the major attraction in Rio. The spectacular view from the top of this place is what impresses most of the tourists. From this point one can enjoy the far ends of city and its major attractions. The Sugar Loaf, the Guanabara Bay, the lagoon and also the Atlantic Ocean are few of the major attractions which can be viewed from here.

The statue has the height of 30 metres, which does not including its 8-metre pedestal, and the arms stretch 28 metres wide. The statue weighs about  635 metric tons, and is placed at the top of the peak with an altitude of 700-metre. The statue is located  in Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park surrounded by city of Rio. The left arm of the statue directs to the Rio de Janeiro’s north zone, the right arm pointing to the south zone, while the perch gives scenic views of Ipanema, the Maracana soccer stadium and the magnificent mountain range of Serra do Orgaos.This statue has become a great inspiration of Christianity all over the world as well as a cultural representation of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. The statue has obtained the status of one of the Seven Wonders of the World. 

There are about 220 steps to climb to reach top to be neat to the statue. The original design of Christ Redeemer was created and  put forward by a man named Oswald. His design bit different and consisting to have a globe in one, and standing over a pedestal which represented the world. This design was not given the nod for approval.
