lionClose encounter with wildlife (14th June, 2016): The danger in the wildlife safari is unknown to the tourists visiting these places. The tourists venture to have closure encounter with the wild life and take selfies, videos and other recordings. This type of tourism disturbs the animals and their habitats. There is an increasing trend of such wrong practices being made by the tourists, despite the claims by forest authorities that stern actions are being taken against the violators. But it seems that the violators are not being penalized for their actions.

As per the record, the Gypsy drivers were pulled up by the forest authorities for taking the tourists too close to the animals last month. Earlier a foreign tourist was fined by the authorities for playing the sound of bird calls using gadgets to attract the birds. He was fined Rs. 10,000/- for playing that sound. In addition to this incident, there are many photos shot by the tourists showing the animals very close to them. Though such experience gives a thrill, the trend is very dangerous for both the animals and human beings. Many gypsy drivers have also been penalized for taking the tourists too close to the animals, which should not be less than 50 metres.

Recently, a group of tourists blocked the path of a herd of elephants going to quench their thirst. The elephants were forced to return back without drinking. A video shot by tourist is also evident of killing of a deer by tiger.

The zones for tourism propose have been specified, but many go beyond that. There are dos and dont’s, which are not followed by the tourists.

As per a Social activitists, the guides and drivers are forced by the tourists to take such ventures of getting close to animals for cheap thrill. The guides and drivers do not want to disappoint their customers which lead to such activities. He says that the animals also tend to reach human habitats as the distance between two is diminishing because of such activities.
