Deoria tal trek has gained its name in famous treks of Uttarakhand. This trek can be considered one of the shortest treks in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. Deoria tal lake is located in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand. This beautiful lake is on hilltop of the Ukhimath town, the winter seat of Kedarnath. Deoria tal situated at a height of 2200 mtr, is surrounded by green forests. This lake supplies water to Ukhimath town habited just below the mountain. The first 7 km up to Sari village from Ukhimath can be covered by motor and the remaining 3 km for Deoria tal trek has to be trekked. Ukhimath is around 190 km from Rishikesh which can be covered in 6 – 7 hours. Deoriatal trek is quite steep in comparison to other nearby treks.
The trekkers normally take few minutes of break at Sare village where one can get breakfast, meal, and other essential items like bottled water, cold drink, chips etc. It is recommended to carry chocolate, bottled water and some eatables along with. The best option would be to carry a flask consisting of tea from Sare and enjoy a little tea break with biscuits and chips on the half way. Initially the trek is bit rocky but later you will come across wild vegetation and spectacular view of Chandrshila peak on the route. The trek can be done throughout the year. During winters one can experience the snow fall and play with snow. The trek until the lake shows the view of Chandrashila and Chopta Meadows and Mountains. As soon as one reaches to the lake, the scenery totally changes and the majestic Chakhambha suddenly appears as a big surprise. The majestic Chaukhamba peak reflecting in the crystal clear waters of Deoria tal looks at arms reach.
The first thing which the people do is sit on the ground and view the nature’s gift of lake at the top of a mountain. You will see many people at different places roaming around with their camera or mobiles taking the snaps of lake and the snow capped mountains. You will like to roam around the lake and stroll around the abandoned forest structures. At Deoria tal Lake one can also enjoy tea, paranthas, Maggie prepared by the local shopkeepers. Most of the times, in the places like Deoria tal its cold and the appetite to eat is more. Normally it takes 2 to 3 hours to reach Deoria tal from Sare. If you start early morning from Rishikesh, then you are expected to reach at the top in the evening. One can stay overnight on the lake side by pitching a tent. The food arrangement is must, as there are no restaurants or hotels due to forest regulations.
This trek takes you to lake where from you can see the great Himalaya chain of peaks including Chaukhamba. Next day, you can get back before lunch to reach Rishikesh in time, unless you want to visit Chopta, Tungnath and Chandrashila. These places are quite nearby and normally included in the itinerary.

:Sari to Deoria tal (3 km ) trek
2nd day :Deoria tal to Sari, downhill trek
:Sari to Rishikesh
The other places surrounding Deoria tal are Chopta, Tungnath, Chandrashila. Normally, people keep all the mentioned places in the itinerary while visiting this lake.
The season for Deoria tal lake is round the year. During winter, sometimes due heavy snowfall the trek is hindered. A further trek from Deoria tal to Chandrashila can also be done through thick forest and beautiful meadows stretching to 14 km.
