Helicopter service in Kedarnath (18th May, 2016): The helicopters are flying in the skies of Kedarnath. Ever since the opening of kapat of Kedarnath on 9th May, more than 600 helicopter shuttles to Kedarnath from various places have taken place. The facility has been availed by more than 4000 pilgrims.
With the opening of Kedarnath Dham, pilgrims have started paying visits to Kedarnath Dham. The trek to Kedarnath is around 16 km and takes one full day to reach and another one day to come back to Gaurikund. By using the services of the helicopters, one can reduce this two days’ journey to one day. Moreover, it is a difficult trek and very hard to scale by elderly people.
There are nine companies which are operating from Narayankoti , Masta, Maikhand, Shersi etc. The helicopter services start from early 9:00 AM and end at 7:00 PM. The following shows the shuttles done by the helicopters:
12th May: 186 (1094 pilgrims),
13th May: 189 (1095 pilgrims),
14th May: 222 (1279 pilgrims).
During 9th May and 10th May, there were as many as 100 shuttles providing journey to around 1000 pilgrims. It is assumed that in coming days, two – three more helicopters would be added in the fleet.
In anticipation of large crowd in coming weeks and months, all the necessary measures have been taken to make the journey pleasant and safe. Already more than 1 lakh pilgrims have been registered in initial six days of the opening of Char Dham yatra on 19th May. Kedarnath has received around 21,792 pilgrims during initial 6 days of the opening of kapat.

The distances from Delhi to Kedarnath:
Delhi to Rishikesh : 230 km (7 – 8 hours)
Rishikesh to Guptakashi: 178 km (7 – 8 hours)
One can take either halt at night in Rishikesh or use the night for journey from Delhi to Rishikesh. The other day would be used as journey and night halt at Guptakashi.
