Initiative to include Kailash as World Heritage Site (24th November, 2016): In the frontiers of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand , the very divine and pious land of Kailash is located. It is a naturally and culturally rich example of land on the earth. The importance of the Kailash in the Hindu mythology and the exotic location has led to people taking the initiative for inclusion of Kailash in world heritage. This topic is being discussed in the fifth meeting of UNESCO for considering Kailash in the world heritage centre . This meeting of UNESCO was started on Tuesday (22nd November 2016) at the wild life institute, Dehradun. The procedure of making this culturally and naturally abundant land as a mixed world heritage is being considered in Dehradun.
As per an official of wild life institute, Pithoragarh has its own beautiful landscape and due to its natural and cultural diversity this place has become a very prominent place of research work for many experts. These research works will be displayed at the UNESCO’s international level, category to center meeting. On the basis of the research works, the experts will decide whether they should proceed further in considering the Kailash in heritage sites.
If this matter gets assent, it would be moved further and discussed by the international experts. If they also recommend the name of Kailash, then the role of Uttarakhand Government will become crucial in the further process.
The proposal would be sent to the Uttarakhand Government and after receiving the assent from government, the same will be sent to the Central World Natural Heritage Commission. The commission will submit the report to UNESCO, where the procedure of including Kailash in the mixed world heritage site will finally be approved
Coordination between India, Nepal, and China is very much important for conserving this heritage site.
- Kailash Mountain and Mansarovar Lake are considered as the most pious places.
- This place is the originator of four major rivers viz- Bhramaputra, Satluj, Karnali and Indra.
- This place is a pilgrimage of four religions i.e. Hindu, Jain, Buddhism , and Bor.
