International zoo in Haldwani (16th February, 2016) : The proposed international zoo in Uttarakhand has been inspected by a Swedish team comprising of zoo keepers and curators. The location of zoo is in Haldwani in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. As per the team, the site location is quite suited and once readied, the zoo would be the one of the finest zoos in India.
The zoo will be developed over 412 hectares, with 300 hectares for wildlife safaris and 100 hectares for Biodiversity Park. The Biodiversity Park would also be developed as a wildlife veterinary health care facility. A wide range of wildlife species shall be kept in the zoos and the species shall be selected based on their capacity to adapt to the natural climatic conditions.
The main attractions would be leopard safari, tiger safari, aquarium and aviary. The work at Gaulapur village is about to start within next few months. The Swedish team has already visited other zoos in India – Delhi and Nainital.
