Jim Corbett’s rifle (4th April, 2016) : Jim Corbett has become a famous name in wildlife arena. A national park has been named after Jim Corbett in Uttarakhand because of his brave acts of killing terror beasts who had become man eaters. Jim Corbett’s authority has pursued to obtain the famous rifle once possessed by Jim Corbett. The matter is still in pipeline and in future we might see the rifle in the National Park of Jim Corbett. Meanwhile, there is a chance of taking the glimpse of the rifle at Choti Haldwani in Uttarakhand.
The date 3rd April, 2016 has turned out to be very important day for the home of famous hunter and Conservationists Jim Corbett, located at Choti Haldwani. Around 69 years back, Jim Corbett had left India and deposited his rifle in England and the same rifle has been brought back at his home in Choti Haldwani on Sunday, 3rd April, 2016. The rifle shall be kept for few days only. The people are very curious to see this rifle and there there is a big rush of visitors.
This ‘ .275 Rigby rifle’ was gifted to Jim Corbett in 1907 by Lieutenant General of United Province of India. The gift was awarded to honour Jim Corbett for killing a man eater leopard in Champawat region. Jim had left India in 1947 to settle in Kenya. At that time, Jim had deposited the rifle at Oxford University Press in England. The present owners of this rifle – Mark Newton and Simon have to Choti Haldwani at Jim’s home. They will be here for another 10 days with Jim Corbett’s invaluable rifle.
