The kapats of Tungnath and Madmaheshwar temples shall open on 11th May and 20th May respectively this year, 2016. The opening ceremony shall be done with all traditional rituals and vedic chants. The opening date was decided on Baishakhi parv (13th April) by Badri – Kedar Temple Committee.
As we know that all the Panch Kedars and Char Dham idols are shifted to winter seats, similarly the Tungnath and Madmaheshwar idols are also shifted to the winter seats, normally in the month of November till May. The Tungnath idol is shifted to Makku village and the Madmaheshwar lord is shifted to Ukhimath. Every year, the idol of Gods are shifted to their main temple with great fanfare. People from all over India and abroad participate this traditional yatra, which takes 2-4 days. The yatra (journey) is taken by foot. There are several padavs (stays) in the journey. The journey has a great spiritual surrounding and people are more than happy to trek this journey and watch the opening of the kapat in their presence at the end. The pilgrim meets pilgrimage which completes the the saga of this grand yatra (journey)
In similar fashion, the doli yatra of Madmaheshwar and Tungnath lord shall be carried as follows:
16th May: The Madmaheshwar doli shall be brought over to Mandir parishar.
17th May: The puja-archana (worship) shall be done.
18th May: The doli shall be carried to Ransi followed by overnight stay.
19th May: The doli shall be brought over to Gaundar village followed by overnight stay.
20th May: Finally on this day, the doli shall reach Madhmaheshwar temple.
The Kapat shall open at 11:00 AM.
The kapat opening of Tungnath was declared at Makkumath. On 9th May, the doli of Tungnath lord shall rest at Boothnath Mandir. Finally, on 11th May the kapat shall open with vedic chants and traditional rituals.
