51 kms from Almora, Kausani is one of the most beautiful places on this route. Here one can have a very close and crisp look at the Himalayas. This was the birth place of Sumitra Nandan Pant, a Hindi poet of international fame, who must have drawn inspiration for his writings from the beautiful mountains around. Just for this divine call, Mahatma Gandhi stayed here for sometime and founded the Anashakti Ashram. The Ashram is an active institution propagating the Gandhian-idealism. When viewed from here, sunrise and sunset are a rich experience. Kausani also has a hill side covered with tea plantation which are worth a visit.
Kausani has now emerged as a popular tourist resort with a large number of hotels and guest houses, and is ideal place for a peaceful holiday.
