Excursion to Kunjapuri
This is a delightful spot located atop a hill amidst lush green forests from where the legendary Himalayan peaks can be viewed in all their glory. Some prominent peaks that can be seen from here are Bandarpoonch, Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi and Trisul.
On the top of a hillock there is a temple dedicated to Goddess Durga who is worshipped as the source of energy for the entire cosmic system. On the day of Ashtami, whichis the eighth day of the Durga Puja festival, a fair is held every year at the temple to propitiate and worship the Goddess. Devotees regularly visit the temple to receive Her blessings and many of them combine their devotion with the opportunity of sight seeing. Kunjapuri is 25 kilometres from Rishikesh and 9 kilometres from Narendra Nagar. The 2 km road branches off at km 7 from Narendra Nagar and goes right up to the foot of the temple which is then reached by climbing a flight of 310 steps. Rishikesh valley can be seen from here in the south and the Himalayan peaks in the north.
Note: No accommodation is available at Kunjapuri.
