Railway from Rishikesh to Karnaprayag (28th June, 2016): The railway line construction from Rishikesh to Karnaprayag is about to begin from September, 2016, this year. All the formalities regarding the railway track construction has been exercised. The tunnel shall start from Dalanwala. In order to keep the highway traffic smooth, at the crossings of railway track and the motor roads, two flyovers will be constructed at Haridwar by – pass and Dehradun road.
This railway line is being given priority due to its importance in commercial business, and Railway Ministry is very serious about this project. The Railway Department has already done all the exercise pertaining to the land cases. The compensation has been paid to the project affected persons. Two flyovers have been proposed at Rishikesh. After monsoon, the construction shall commence at Biwiwala near Haridwar by – pass, which will be 200 m long. The other flyover will be constructed at Doon road on forest barrier, which will be 400 m long. A 300 m long bridge will also be constructed over Chandrabhaga River.
This railway line will have 15 stations starting from Rishikesh to Karnprayag. The major railway stations along the route will be Virbhadra, Rishikesh, Shivpuir, Vyasi, Devprayag, Maletha, Srinagar, Dhari, Rudraprayag, Gholtir, Gauchar, and Karnaprayag.
This 125-km long Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line, an ambitious project will make Char Dham Yatra, particularly for Kedar and Badri pilgrims, more comfortable for the pilgrims. With the construction of the railway line, there will be boom in tourism industry and also improve the employment scenario in this region. Uttarakhand receives millions of tourists every year and a big chunk of this flow goes to Char Dham shrines. The road traffic gets very congested during the peak season and lot of tourists face difficulty in getting the transportation. The railway will definitely solve this problem to a certain level. The time duration and the road fatalities will also reduce on railway journey. In near future, with the completion of the railway line and start of this new transportation will change the face of tourism in Uttarakhand.
