River rafting in Rishikesh (8th Sep 2015) : There is a new turn in the matter of river rafting in Rishikesh. The NGO complaining regarding this matter to National Green Tribunal has asked not to close rafting but camping along the river.
In chairmanship of Justice S. Kumar, the NGO told that the surrounding areas of Ganga are getting badly polluted due to camping. The area is very sensitive to environment degradation, even then the existing 123 rafting camps along the river banks do not make a proper management to handle the wastes. The NGO further added that the reason behind the pollution is the tourists taking bath, washing clothes and using plastic items and eating items near river, which they throw anywhere due to lack of proper dumping and dust bin availability.
The NGO said that the Environment Ministry had released a government order in 1998, which said that there should not be any camp on the river banks. For more please Click
