trafficThe initial Char Dham traffic (24th May, 2016): After Uttarakhand disaster in 2013, the tourism is back on track this year. This year, the number of pilgrims visiting the shrine in its initial 14 days has crossed the total number of pilgrims visited in the whole season of 2014. In 2014, a total number of 1,70,000 pilgrims had been registered for Char Dham shrines, whereas this year the number of tourists have crossed 1,82,000 during initial 14 days of the opening of the Char Dham shrine.

After disaster that struck in 2013, the number of pilgrims has drastically decreased and at that time it seemed that it would take decades to recover the same momentum. The tourism industry had been hit badly and the percentage of the tourism had fallen very low. All other tourism activities including the pilgrimage had decreased due to the notion that tourism in Uttarakhand was not a good choice. This year, all the perceptions of low volume of pilgrims has turned out to be false due to the devotion shown by the devotees. This year the photo metric registration of the pilgrims has crossed the number of 1,82,000 in its initial 14 days till now (22nd May, 2014). The maximum number of registration has been done for Keadranth, which is 98312. Whereas in the years 2014 and 2015, the tally was only 1,70,000 and 4,60,000 respectively for the whole season.

The rush to Char Dham shrines can be seen in Rishikesh and Haridwar, where many pilgrims are waiting for the bus for last one week due to shortage of the buses along the route. The pilgrims are excited to take this holy journey despite of many difficulties being faced by them. The transporters and the tourism industry people are happy and satisfied to see the return of the Char Dham yatra after a dry spell of three years. Government is also expecting a good volume of pilgrims for Char Dham yatra. As per the internal sources the expected number of pilgrims may touch the figure of 50 lakh this season for Char Dham yatra.
