The monsoon closure of Raja ji and Corbett National Park (15th June, 2016): The two tiger reserves of Uttarakhand – Jim Corbett National Park and Raja ji National Park – shall be closed after 15th June as a part of their monsoon break for another six months. The parks shall open on 15th November after clearing all the road blocks.

In Corbett National Park, the part consisting of Dhikala shall be closed from Wednesday, June 15, but the part consisting of Bijrani will remain open till 30th June.  The other two parts – Jhirna and Dhela – remain open round the year for safari during day time, but could be closed during certain days due to bad weather.

This year, there was a high turnout of the tourists at both the tiger reserves. As per the official figures, this year the Corbett alone attracted over 2.83 lakh visitors generating revenue mmore than Rs. 8.9 crore. Out of the total visitors, 700 were foreigners. In the year 2014 – 15, the total number of tourists was 2.45 generating the revenue worth Rs. 8.3 crore. Corbett has over 200 tigers know as Royal Bengals. This reserve boasts of having highest density of tiger in the country.

The other reserve is Raja ji, which is relatively new. The Raja ji tiger  was notified in April 2015. Although the Raja ji is park not as updated in terms of online booking and other modern facilities, the  park received more tourists than previous year.  Last year the park received a total number of 26,000 tourists generating the revenue worth Rs. 57.56 lakh, whereas this year the total number of tourists reached to 41,000 generating revenue worth Rs. 1 crore. In this park, the Beatles ashram was opened on 10th December, 2016 which added to the attraction.

The five zones of Raja ji – Chilla, Motichur, Ranipur, Mohand and Aarodhi – will be closed for the monsoon. As per an official, the tourist flow shall increase in the coming years which will boost the tourism also.
