Trekking in Uttarakhand (29th March, 2016) : Uttarakahand is well known for its natural beauty and unparalleled high mountain peaks. Most of these peaks are the part of Himalayan chain. Himalaya is one of the longest mountain chains in the world. Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world, which is also the part of Himalayan chain in Nepal. The Himalayan chain starts from Afghanistan to bhutan stretching a distance of nearly 2400 km. Uttarakhand is famous for its peaks  like Nanda Devi, Neelkantha, Kamet etc.  The nature lovers visit Uttarakhand to see the beauty of Himalayan peaks stretching from one corner to another. There are several trekking routes in Uttarakhand, which take you to these breathtaking places in the outer and inner Himalayas. The border districts like Chamoli, Uttarakashi, Pithoragarh and other districts boast of several treks in Himalayan Mountains. Few of the famous ones are Nanada devi sanctuary, Kuari pass, Gaumukh –  tapovan, Milam etc.  In total there are around 200 treks in Uttarakhand, which take you the journey to these beautiful Himalayan places and mountains.     

Every year thousands of trekkers come to Uttarakhand to experience the richness of this part of tourism. Trekking is also associated with the pilgrimage of Uttarakhand temples and shrines. The longest and the famous trek is that of the Sri Kedarnath which is around 22 km trek. In spite of being such a long trek, the difficulty to trek the route does not discourage the devotees to take the darshan of Lord Shiva at Kedarnath. Many shrines are at the places where one has to trek except few famous shrines like Badrinath and Gangotri. 

Trekking is becoming more and more popular adventure sports in India, thanks to the media which has given a great boost to this part of the tourism. The government of India and tourism departments of different states are trying hard to promote every aspect of the tourism including adventure, leisure tourism. Similarly, the government of Uttarakhand has been very successfully playing a role to develop the tourism in the state.
